Al Shuwahif Race shines at Sir Bu Nair Festival

Sharjah 24: Humaid Al Kindi, Board Member of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club,
revealed that the Sir Bu Nair Festival hosted the wooden speed boat race, Al Shuwahif, in an
initiative aimed at strengthening ties with authentic maritime heritage.

The event was organised in cooperation with the UAE Marine Sports Federation and the Sharjah
International Marine Sports Club.

Encouraging youth and preserving tradition

Al Kindi told “Sharjah 24” that the initiative also aims to encourage young people to practise this
traditional sport, preserve the traditional wooden boats, and channel youth energies towards
beneficial activities. The event’s organisation came in collaboration with the UAE Marine Sports
Federation and the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club.

High-level cultural agreement

Al Kindi added in remarks to “Sharjah 24,” on the sidelines of the race, that the event witnessed the
signing of a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the UAE
Marine Sports Federation.

The agreement aims to preserve maritime heritage and promote its sustainability at the global level
through the launch of research and cultural projects and joint training programmes.
