UAE urges residents to spot crescent

moon for Ramadan 2025

The sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon will

determine the start of the holy month in the UAE

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have called on residents to observe the
sky for the crescent moon on the evening of Friday 28 February.

The sighting will play a crucial role in determining the official beginning
of Ramadan, a sacred and spiritually significant time in the Islamic calendar.

The UAE Council for Fatwa has requested people across Dubai and other
emirates to look for the Ramadan crescent.

Once confirmed by the moon sighting committee, the ninth month of the Hijri
calendar will officially commence, marking the beginning of fasting, prayers,
and community togetherness.

The Islamic calendar follows lunar cycles, meaning each month begins with the
sighting of the crescent moon.
