In recognition of the Islamic New Year, the Dubai Government Human Resources Department
(DGHR) has officially declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday for all government
departments and institutions across the emirate.
The announcement is part of the UAE’s continued commitment to honouring key religious
occasions. The Hijri New Year, also known as the Islamic New Year, marks the beginning of the lunar
Hijri calendar, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad’s migration (Hijra) from Mecca to Medina.

As outlined in the circular issued by DGHR, all Dubai government entities will observe the holiday
on the designated Friday. However, the directive specifically notes that not all organisations will
follow the same schedule. Entities involved in vital public services or those that operate around the
clock— such as emergency services, utility providers, and public transportation—are exempt from
the unified holiday. These organisations are permitted to manage staff schedules based on
operational needs to ensure the continued delivery of essential services.
