The Hijri calendar is widely followed in Islamic tradition for determining the dates of significant
religious events such as Ramadan and Hajj. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, it is based on lunar
cycles, resulting in annual variations of Islamic dates when compared to the solar calendar.
This year's holiday provides a long weekend for many, as it falls on a Friday, offering employees in
the public sector an opportunity for rest, spiritual reflection, and time with family. The private
sector’s holiday schedule is announced separately by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and
Emiratisation.
