Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, explained that this edition reflects a strong
commitment to a better aviation future. It aims to foster competition among academic and
research institutions to produce innovative solutions for industry sustainability. This aligns with the
UAE's vision for global aviation sector development.

The award will recognise achievements in three categories: Academic Organisations -
Undergraduates, Academic Organisations - Postgraduates, and Research Institutions. Each
category focuses on advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) solutions. The first-place winners in
both undergraduate and postgraduate categories will receive US$250,000 each.

Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary-General of ICAO, remarked on the importance of initiatives like this
award in achieving net-zero aviation. He said, "The path to net-zero aviation is achievable, and
initiatives like the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Award help prove it."
These efforts demonstrate that sustainable aviation solutions are now within reach.

The award criteria include Innovation, Feasibility, Sustainability, Economic Potential and Cost-
effectiveness, Business & Policy Impact, and Infrastructure & Market Readiness. These ensure
successful integration into current aviation systems while addressing environmental impact and
               economic viability.

               Categories Designed for Future Innovators

The categories aim to inspire future innovators by building an academic foundation for SAF
solutions. They encourage addressing issues like environmental impact and policy support within
existing ecosystems. Research institutions will receive trophies and certificates for their
               contributions.

The GCAA invites interested parties to submit entries via the official Award website. This initiative
seeks to expand international collaboration in aviation sustainability efforts.
