Q: How does a local CA team know if facilities are inadequate on a global scale? Is there an audit pro-
cess to ensure each campus is in keeping with recognized standard so no campus is inferior? How do
we go about working with OneSchool in designing and obtaining approval for a new modern Learning
Centre? / How do we get OneSchool assessment and advice on facilities upgrade and design to bring
our campus up to OneSchool standard?

A: This happens naturally. The RPs are going to campuses and can identify when a campus doesn’t have the
right look and feel. Generally, it is obvious whether the school is up to standard with other schools in way of
design. OneSchool our schools to all have the same look and feel. We want our students to all have the same
experience. Make contact with David Heaney to talk about design and he will assess whether or not your
school has the “OneSchool look and feel”.

Q: How can we get a facility review and 5-year plan happening for the school? / How do we put together
a Campus Masterplan that takes in future developments and OSG direction?
A: A lot of the value we add is getting the size right. Bigger is not always better and it just costs way more
than it needs to. A lot of cases where we are looking at a masterplan we need to take a step back and ask
ourselves: What is our head count? What are we trying to achieve here? A masterplan can help us assess
whether it is worth building. Often there is a need, in these situations, to plan at least 2 years ahead for
grants. In the planning for grants, there is a lot of detail such as financials including our ability to borrow
needed funds. Future student numbers are calculated, and plans are made accordingly. Reasons for change,
such as SDL, also need to be considered.

Q: What involvement should staff have in facility requests?
A: The new design team that OneSchool has engaged want to talk with the staff and students. Every campus
differs in size and subject focus, so the Team can make something specific for each and every campus. You have
to make a space that is the right size for the number of students in the school. We generally try to work on
around 10m2 per student. It is very important that the room isn’t too big so that students can interact.

Q: Is there a goal for when primary learning centres are to be up and running?
A: There currently isn’t any plan set in concrete for when primary learning centres (LC) will be up and run-
ning by. We are doing primary LCs frequently. With new school builds, we have incorporated a LC for prima-
ry. However, in both new builds and upgrades, it comes down to the availability of funds. With primary LCs,
you want flexible areas and you don’t need a lot of space. If funds are available, submit it to the system.

Q: If works are recommended to bring facilities up to the global standard, how is it funded?
A: If the campus has the funds available, then an upgrade can go ahead. However, it is important that all
costs involved are taken into consideration. You need to think about the cost of the building, IT costs and
cost of the consultants. There are also ongoing costs to take into consideration such as power etc. Need to
ensure you have enough funds to cover all these costs.

Q: How important is merging campuses now that VC is well in place to remove travel etc.?

A: Campuses are only merged on very rare occasions. There is no definite plan in place as VC doesn’t play a
huge part in the decision to merge. Any merge in campuses is a long thought out decision to ensure the best
                 for our students and teachers.
