Workshop Booklet

Q: How do we ensure the students education is not suffering at the expense of budget cuts?
A: In 2018 we have managed to maintain our cost base, which has meant that our CPS (Cost per student) has
increased. We need to maintain that to ensure we are sustainable. This will come about by engaging more
                 with the RPs about this.

Q: Are finances to be amalgamated within a cluster?
A: This is not OneSchool’s responsibility. This needs to be worked out at State Inc level.

Q: Could we get clarification as to who pays for what i.e. Head office or local campus?
A: It depends who manages the payments vs. where the money comes from. The local Campus team are
responsible for maintaining the campus, vehicle expenses or vehicle allowances, also the employment of any
charitable community employees at the school. The State Inc is not responsible for those expenses. Ulti-
mately, the campus still needs to raise the same amount of funds as they were when they were paying the
                 teachers themselves.

Q: How is the Forecast and Operation of the Campus Budget best structured regarding subject areas,
facilities and excursions? What are the Board, CA Teams and HOC roles and responsibilities in this?

A: The budgets have become a tool whereby we will be carefully tracking and reporting budget vs actual
monthly. The board’s responsibility is to ensure overall financial sustainability. The CA Team is managing the
day to day expenses of the facility and the HOC is more the faculty.

Q: Where does the Finance for major capital works come from?

A: The local campus building fund.

Q: Is there any chance campus finance leads can have input into the chart of accounts layout and the
                 budget approval process?
A: This is being managed at a global level and is being worked through with the global finance leads in view
of aligning all campuses globally so that we can have accurate benchmarking and provide clear reporting to
                 our stakeholders.

Q: What will the budget process look like going forward?

A: One of the key changes for the 2019 budget is to begin earlier than we did in 2018. We will be engaging
a lot more with RPs and more at campus level. Looking further forward, we will have 3-5-year targets; the
budgets will be uploaded into Xero and retrospective change of chart of accounts for meaningful prior year
                 comparisons.
