I am Kaia Mermaid from Costa Rica

I am 37 years old, I live in Costa Rica and I am a
graphic designer by profession. I am a cosplayer
and also a cosmaker. I like to sew my costumes,
make my own props and try new materials. I have
loved swimming since I was very little. Water is my
element, in it I feel free.

As I have grown older, I have fewer insecurities. I
see that life is to enjoy it without thinking about
what the others will say. I love water so much
that I decided to start investigating and saw that
there were “real mermaids.” I said to myself, I have
to try this. In Costa Rica there is no mermaid
community and it is not easy to import the tails.
I started by making mine in fabric and trying
different things. Now I know that I like it and I
want to continue in this, I hope I can make another
tail applying what I learned in the first one.

This green tail is made of lycra fabric, hand painted,
the design was made by myself. The tail has
organza to give it more movement and shine in the
sun. The side fins are in foam with fabric, also hand
painted.
