        House of the Dragon

        Sky Atlantic/Now, 2am/9pm
Escape the fractious political jockeying and manoeuvring of the moment by returning to

Westeros, where the fractious political jockeying and manoeuvring is accompanied by the threat

of dragon warfare — a somewhat more formidable threat than a live TV debate. Close to two

years have passed since the conclusion of the first series of this prequel, the killing of Lucerys

Velaryon, son of Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), by Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell)
rending an irreparable faultline within the Targaryen family. In Succession, HBO’s other show

about dysfunctional elites, members of the Roy family hurled poison-coated verbal barbs at one

another; here the Targaryens are all too ready to resort to violence, and this second series begins

with battle lines drawn and war almost inevitable. Yet there is anything but unquestioning

loyalty within either side. Fiendish scheming by devious courtiers and second-tier nobles
