defined the classic era of Game of Thrones, their betrayals and cunning traps taking their targets
and the audience by surprise. With a series to establish the large and impressive cast, and the
stakes raised, there are signs there will be as much backstabbing this time around as
frontstabbing. Blond ambition is a defining trait of the fair-haired Targaryen maniacs, the
previously mentioned Aemond and Daemon (Matt Smith) both in possession of flamboyant
rages that won’t stand suppression. Spoilers prevent too much from being shared in this very
strong return, but another trait of classic Thrones is present in this opener: the cover-your-

Cult Massacre: One Day in Jonestown
Disney+
The scene at Jonestown, the outpost in Guyana home to a cult and named after its leader, Jim
Jones, was as depraved and sickening as Jones’s own mind. Hundreds of bodies, later tallied to

devotion to Jones, and witnesses to the wanton destruction of human life detail how the cult
descended into murderous and paranoid anarchy. There is, as you might imagine, disturbing
archive material, which hurls those survivors back to the jungle.

Before the tennis circus rocks up at SW19, it’s the traditional grass court warm-up at the
Queen’s Club in west London. Out of the world’s top 50 male players there will be 23 taking
part in this year’s championship, with last year’s winner and Wimbledon champion Carlos
Alcaraz returning to defend his title. Out of the others, two British players, Cameron Norrie and
Jack Draper, will be hoping to bring the title back home.
Lost Boys and Fairies
BBC1, 9pm
There won’t be many more emotional hours of television in 2024 than this episode of Daf
James’s tender drama, so do take the necessary precautions — such as a steady supply of tissues
or support confectionery — before watching. A future that seemed so bright for Gabe (Sion
Daniel Young) and Andy (Fra Fee) has dimmed in the aftermath of the violent assault on the
