Big ships on the Mersey always draw big crowds - but Cunard brings that up
a level. The cruise line was established in Liverpool in 1840, launching
transatlantic passenger shipping from our maritime city.
Its connection with Liverpool is felt keenly - Cunard's name is lent to the
centrepiece of our Three Graces - the elegant building which was once the
company's headquarters. Its ships have previously attracted more than a
million spectators to our region, first for the maiden call of the QE2 in July
1990, and in 2015 for the Three Queens ‘royal rendezvous’ in front of
the Cunard Building.

Yesterday was another one for the books. People were out in force on both
sides of the river as soon as Queen Anne arrived on the Mersey and many
made their way into town to get a glimpse of the 1,000ft behemoth as she
berthed at the cruise terminal.
