Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
Founded by the Pittsburgh Arts Society in 1895, the PSO had a notable early influx of
players from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, under early conductor Frederick Archer.
Today's PSO is going great guns under Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck. Pittsburgh
and Honeck have together produced some beautifully played and tremendously exciting
recordings of (among other things) Tchaikovsky, Mahler and Dvořák symphonies.
Recommended recording:
Dvorak: Symphony No. 8 / Janácek: Symphonic Suite from Jenůfa Pittsburgh Symphony
