A major UK cultural event has chosen Manchester as the location to host its
upcoming awards. Described as the 'biggest night in UK classical music', the
Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Awards will take place this March at the Royal
               Northern College of Music.

It will be the first time the prestigious awards have taken place outside of
London, with organisers describing Manchester as "a cultural powerhouse"
where music "pulses vibrantly through the city’s veins". Last year, two of the RPS
awards were awarded to Manchester music organisations.

The awards, seek to shine a light on musical individuals, groups and initiatives
inspiring communities from across the UK, with categories spanning Conductor,
Instrumentalist, Opera and Music Theatre, Singer and many more. Today, the
nominees have also been revealed and include several musicians and

               organisations from Manchester.

When it was first announced that the awards would be held in Manchester, there
was a significant buzz online. Manchester's Night Time Economy Advisor Sacha
Lord took to X, formerly known as Twitter to write that it was "a big win" for the
               city.
