SuSpended jail sentence for a
thug who brutally kicked a woman
in the head has been widely con-
demned.
Thsharif Ali avoided prison over the
violent new Year’s eve attack after Judge
Avik Mukherjee handed the 42-year-old
father from Moseley a suspended sen-
tence – partly over fears he could catch
Covid-19 in prison.
But the move sparked outrage among
many, including criminology professor
elizabeth Yardley, of Birmingham City
university, who said: “The judiciary is the
toughest nut to crack. It’s inherently
misogynistic and there’s so much igno- It’s a manor
rance among judges around domestic
