        Only one thing disappointed about this joyous celebration of the City of Birmingham Symphony
        Orchestra — held 100 years, to the minute, after the orchestra’s first concert. It should have
        been on mainstream television as well as on YouTube. In fact it would have been a courteous
        gesture on the BBC’s part to have incorporated it into the Proms season.
        Instead, the CBSO, still unable to access Symphony Hall, decamped to a warehouse in

        Longbridge to produce a two-hour show that was part concert — conducted by one of its former

        music directors, Simon Rattle — and part documentary. The whole thing was presented, with
