The Emil Bach House
This Frank Lloyd Wright lakefront masterpiece is the pride of Chicago. The home was designed for Wright’s admirer
Emil Bach in his Prairie style. It’s a school of design developed by Wright to create a distinctly American style divorced
from European influence. The House has a cubic design, overhanging flat roof and a clear view of Lake Michigan with
an enclosed sunroom and porch which are in the process of being restored by the current owners. Contained to a city
plot, the Emil Bach House shows off Wright’s control over form and function, his ability to constrain his usual sprawling
style entrenched in the surrounding nature to create a more urban dwelling.
Today, the Emil House stands as the only one of Wright’s masterpieces available as a vacation
and event rental space. You can spend a luxurious weekend or plan an unforgettable wedding at
the Emil Bach House. Want a sneak peek of the magic behind the walls? Take a 360º virtual tour.
Get up close and personal with more of Wright’s most important structures, including Unity Temple, Hollyhock House,
Graycliff estate and even the architect’s own home, with in-depth photo galleries and virtual visits curated by the
Unity Temple Restoration Foundation that seeks to preserve and present Wright’s visions into the 21st-Century. g
