Railroad Crossing Dated 1901. eBay purchase 2014. 72"x84" Fabric: Cotton, prints dating back to 1890s.
Batting: Cotton. Backing: Blue cotton. Edge: Machine-made, stitched to the back by machine and to the
front with a tiny hand stitch. Piecing: By hand, extremely fine stitching. Quilting: By hand in broad arcs
(clamshell, Baptist fan), 6-7 stitches per inch. Condition: Very good. Would be excellent except for two
brown age spots ¼" and ½" on the pink sashing. Comment: Centers of squares are embroidered with the
names Irene and Thomas and bear the 1901 date.
