“It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.”
1. We lived in the hood. We went to school in the hood.
2. We went to Church in the hood. We were a community in the hood.
3. All of our leaders were Negro. Yes, in 1969, we were Negro.
4. Our role models were our parents, members of the NAACP, our school
Principals, our Teachers, our Pastors of Churches, our teachers.
5. No, the role models were not the athletes, the rock stars, the musicians.
We learned from them: how not to live and what not to do.
