LABELLING, CODING & MARKING
CONTINUOUS
CODING WITH
DOMINO CLOUD
The Domino Cloud ecosystem for the Ax-Series Continuous Inkjet Printer helps maintain and resolve problems using remote diagnostics.
The Domino Cloud helps manufacturers maximise their inkjet uptime through remote connectivity with real-time performance data accessible securely via a mobile device, according to Insignia, Domino’s Australian distributor.
As part of Insignia’s SafeGuard service and support package, Domino Cloud provides comprehensive protection for the Ax-Series Continuous Inkjet Printer. The Domino Cloud interface plugs into the inkjet coder and uses a secure and safe network connection to transmit data to the cloud.
Manufacturers can then access this data in real time from their connected desktop
or mobile device to view the printer’s overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) information, and review printer and ink performance. insignia’s Help Desk enables maximum uptime of the printer’s performance through remote monitoring and can initiate action to prevent faults from occurring. Through identifying minor faults, these can be actioned before they
become major faults that impact production.
Domino Cloud records and reports on the all the printer’s key metrics, providing automated weekly reports and email notifications. Along with the printer’s performance, the reports include OEE calculations and
printer usage charges for extra insights.
A FLEXIBLE THERMAL TRANSFER OVERPRINTER
Hot off the production line is the Allen XL5000 thermal transfer overprinter, which is described by its Australian distributor Result Group as the “industrial workhorse for direct printing”.
The Allen XL5000 thermal transfer overprinter was launched at AUSPACK 2019 in Melbourne in March, and it has been designed to provide a simplified and flexible user experience, and offers provides quality performance on all types of packaging lines on a wide variety of different packaging substrates including bags, pillow packs, cartons, blister packs, sachets and envelope packs.
The Allen XL5000 also has some other key features, such as a small, compact size for maximum compatibility with popular frame
sizes. The system is designed to be a drop-in- place printer, allowing most customers to save money by
using existing frames and
bracket systems – regardless of what type of TTO
system they had previously. Customers can pair the Allen
XL5000 with both a PC and a controller for printer setting adjustments. Print messages can be transferred from the PC to the printer and users can conduct on-the-floor viewing and selecting.
According to its maker, set up is simple with a:touchlite controller with integrated a:controllite software. Also included is
a:design software which provides print message capabilities including barcodes, text, graphics, real-time and dynamic date coding.
Maintenance is minimised
by features such as the rugged, industrial-grade stainless steel a:touchlite controller and best-in-class printheads,
and the quick start design powers up the controller faster. Users can also easily switch between intermittent and continuous print modes with a conversion kit. ✷
NEW FOOD AND HEAT FRIENDLY MATERIAL
AstroNova, represented in Australia by Metromatics, has introduced a new food friendly, heat sealable, flexible packaging material that can be digitally printed.
This food-safe solution has been designed to work with the TrojanLabel presses by AstroNova. The digital, narrow- format solution can be used in either a standalone printing mode or in-line with standard packaging equipment for a complete “print and pack” process. The combination of the unique ink and lamination offers a food friendly packaging solution that allows users to seal in both horizontal and vertical form fill and seal machines, while using low temperatures for high speed sealing.
Going digital will easily allow flexible packaging printers to produce short – to mid-level packaging runs on demand. This feature includes the ability to print barcodes and variable data,
with the precise registration that is expected from TrojanLabel presses. This printing solution can easily be expanded to include a wide array of product packaging, offering the ability to produce the exact number of custom printed packages needed.
The ultra-thin, white gloss PET film was specifically developed to be receptive to AstroNova’s water-based inkjet inks. The inner transparent sealing layer of the film protects food
products from
coming into
contact with the
outer layer.
The water-based
inks used are
food friendly,
odourless, and
free of reactive
chemicals, making
them safer than
other inks,
and are in
compliance with
international
standards. TrojanLabel also recently developed a new exit roller accessory for its Trojan T2-C Digital Mini Label Press that will enable the Trojan T2-C to be integrated with third party existing finishing equipment. The types of Equipment the T2-C may be integrated with after printing can include label applicators, laminator units, die cutting systems and labelling inspection stations.
