NEWCOMERS
One company that came on a look- see-decide trip last year and took the leap of faith as an exhibitor this year is Australis Engineering. MD Peter Gustafson told PKN that he and fellow director and brother Anthony have come to realise that Australia is a small market when it comes to the equipment Australis supplies. Having experienced recent export success into the US and on a smaller scale in Asia Pacific, they felt the time was right to take the plunge and invest in expanding their footprint in SE Asia.
“We were impressed with the scale and professionalism of ProPak Asia and the strong focus on the food industry. With the continued growth in the ASEAN middle class creating a demand for fresher and safer or more hygienic food production, Australis is ideally placed to bring our exper- tise to the ASEAN marketplace.
“Our business strategy has changed over the last three years; whereas before we focused on bespoke solutions, we are now also developing stand-alone saleable products, easy to export,” he said.
One such product is the compa- ny’s new Hygenius, which is a food grade conveyor that attracted considerable attention on the stand. It’s designed to be taken apart for cleaning and reassembled in under two minutes without tools, and is the only conveyor of its kind that is hygiene certified in its entirety – not just its component parts.
“We focused on showing a machine that was inherently clear in its design and easy to clean, and as a result we have fielded really good enquiries at the show.”
Gustafson said they’ve taken a three-year view on exhibiting at ProPak Asia, and expect that by the third year to see real results for the business.
A company that has adopted a similar approach, now in its third year as an exhibitor, is INOX. PKN spoke to MD Robert Becher and tech- nical director Robert Ham, who both concur that at minimum it’s a three- year game. They said the company only recently received its first order from the Phillipines as a direct result of its presence at ProPak Asia.
