an independent lifestyle and living the life they love.
From as early as 30 years of age, adults can lose three to eight per cent of their muscle mass per decade . The body’s muscles, joints and bones undergo consistent change due to the ageing process, wear-and-tear, sedentary lifestyle and under-nutrition. As a result of this, joint tissue can start to thin, bones can become fragile and brittle, cartilage can lose resilience, and bone density and muscle power can decrease.
QWhat are the expectations for this new market? Bodiology is a Fonterra Australia initiative and was
developed in Australia, however we’re working with other markets for launches internationally. We see a significant opportunity within the vitamin supplements category within Australia and abroad over the coming years.
Fonterra Australia worked closely with Fonterra Research and Development Centre throughout the development of Bodiology. While Fonterra is known for dairy products, we have strong expertise and extensive innovation in musculoskeletal health and protein, so creating Bodiology was a natural progression. Fonterra has over 30 years of experience in athlete
performance, protein quality assessment and bone health research as well as having one of the world’s largest databases of musculoskeletal health indicators, which helps support our health research in other areas of muscle health and development.
The bone health supplement category is a growing category, receiving a year-on-year growth of 24 per cent. This, combined with Fonterra’s expertise in musculoskeletal health and protein, provides a lot of opportunity within the vitamin dairy supplement category, particularly with dairy delivering multiple benefits across life stage. ✷
