Awards programs play an important role within our industry. Recognition, appreciation and feeling valued goes a long way to
keep individuals and venues, alike, engaged and productive. They are also great for putting bums on seats. And while some might argue that there are too many restaurant awards, initiatives that target specific sectors have real benefit and merit.
One such program was last month’s Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards. Into its 13th year, the initiative has supported and guided countless young professionals, many of whom have gone on to achieve outstanding things, like Josh Niland and James Viles.
Another August initiative was the Halliday Wine Companion Awards 2019, which necessitated tastings of over 9280 wines. And by shining a light on such wineries as Duke’s Vineyard (WA) and Mewstone Wines (TAS), the guide promotes and encourages talent, skill and originality.
These are foodservice’s very intentions for the Women in Foodservice Awards. We see the program as a commanding tool which showcases the successes and abilities of a section of the industry that has often gone overlooked. From 465 entries, it was difficult
to choose our six winners and talented finalists. But meet them all from page 26.
