FOOD WASTE TRAINING GROUND
THE Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) ran its new ‘The role that packaging plays in minimising food waste’ half-day training course and hosted the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) Save Food and Sustain- able Packaging Pavilion at ProPak Asia 2018.
AIP education director and WPO president Pierre Pienaar ran the new training course, with attendees from Thailand, Japan, India, and the Philippines. The course was interactive, and attendees got involved by asking thought-provoking questions which led to many useful and relevant discussions.
In addition, the AIP was the host of the WPO Save Food and Sustainable Packaging Pavilion, which included an area for showcasing the 2018 Packaging Innovation and Design Award (PIDA) winners and the WPO 2018 Save Food Packaging and Sustainable Packaging Awards winners. The collaborative design of the pavilion enabled visitors to better understand how the country-based awards feed into the WorldStar Awards program, and also highlighted the impor- tance of designing Save Food and sustainable packaging. Sealed Air New Zealand and Woolcool Australia were recognised on the WorldStar Awards poster display as the Gold and Bronze winners for the 2018 Save Food Packaging Special Awards.

about their innovative solutions. This event was once again sponsored by SMC Australia and New Zealand.
“As a first-time exhibitor, we found ProPak Asia 2018 to be an in- teresting and friendly forum to learn about the opportunities and people operating in the south-east Asian food manufacturing market,” Gold Peg International marketing manag- er Paula Bell said.
Process Plant Network sales man- ager Steve Addison said ProPak Asia was a great success for the company.
“We met many new potential cli- ents, took the opportunity to see ex- isting clients, and also found a few new suppliers,” he said.
“The stand was in a great position, and the passing trade was excellent. The helpfulness and resources from APPMA were brilliant and greatly appreciated.
“We look forward to exhibiting at another ProPak in the near future.” ■
