SNACK PROCESSING & PACKAGING

ENHANCED PROCESSING EFFICIENCY
The Spray Dynamics Slurry-On-De- mand Continuous Mixer is a recipe driven, fully automated, tankless continuous mixer which creates ac- curate, homogeneous slurries in op- timal quantities.
“This mixer eliminates the inherent flaws of standard mix and use tank systems,” says Marguccio. “It automat- ically and accurately mixes seasoning and liquids into homogeneous, lump- free slurries in the desired quantity demanded downstream, significantly reducing wasted ingredients and op- erator start-up and cleaning time.”
In another snack processing ad- vance, Heat and Control’s new E- FLO Electroporation System replac- es or reduces the need for blanching in the preparation of products prior to further processing, improving crunch, taste and texture and mini- mising acrylamide formation.
PACKAGING PROWESS INTEGRATED
Ishida is already known for its fully integrated weighing and bagmaker combinations for snacks, and both its entry level First Range Series and top-of-the-range Inspira – claimed to be the world’s fastest VFFS bagmak- er – were on display. The twin-tube Inspira line in particular highlight- ed the flexibility of the weigher/bag- maker combination, with an 18-head RV multihead weigher feeding prod- uct to two separate bagmakers in or- der to maximise throughput.
A key benefit of the Ishida combi- nation solution is the company’s pio- neering iTPS (integrated Total Pack- ing System) software, which enables additional equipment, including full quality inspection (metal detec- tion, seal testing and X-ray inspec- tion), printing, checkweighing and case packing, to be incorporated into the solution.
As part of this, Ishida demonstrat- ed a new fully integrated automatic case packer. The Ishida ACP-700 combines case erecting, bag pack- ing, sorting, case closing and taping in a single machine. “It can handle a wide variety of bag and case sizes in both stand-up and side pack case layouts,” says Marguccio.
Bag formats include pillow, side gus- set and flat bottom, at widths between 108mm and 330mm. The ACP700 is available in twin configuration at fac- tory standard centre-line of 920mm.
A large 15.3” colour HMI screen provides easy-to-use functionality and intuitive operation to reduce the risk of errors.
Case and bag sizes together with case count and pattern configura- tion are entered into the system via the HMI, which sets the various parts of the ACP to carry out the re- quired operation. The case packer can store up to 500 presets, enabling fast and easy changeovers within three minutes without the need for operator intervention, tools or change parts.

Ishida also unveiled a new weigh- er/bagmaker system that combines easier and safer access for operators with increased flexibility for contin- uous operation. The Lift Down mul- tihead weigher incorporates a lift system that can automatically raise and lower the weigher from its posi- tion above the bagger. This elimi- nates the need for a platform around the weigher base, reducing installa- tion costs. It also provides easier ac- cess for operators to carry out rou- tine maintenance and adjustments.
Commenting on the success of the open house event, Marguccio says it was well received by customers and an ideal opportunity to showcase, in a live factory scenario, the wide range of leading-edge technology that customers have access to through HCI Snack Solutions’ end- to-end capability. ■
