Gillies believes the industry needs to lift its reputation while nurturing those who are already working. “If we don’t show that there’s a career structure and opportunities for young people then we don’t have our hat in the ring.”
Gillies is optimistic that this ap- proach to people, products and process- es by MotorOne sets the company apart from its competitors. “Innovation is a blessing and a curse but we enjoy that challenge. The opportunity is to prove we are the experts and to adapt and be across all new technologies. If you can lead the field then your commercial success will follow.”

growth curve. It only started out in 2019 with the four sites of its founding mem- bers. Today it has 16 sites, will have 19 by the end of February and expects to have up to 21 by the end of the financial year.

The growth of the network is driven by what IAG needs in term of coverage and locations. There’s a mixture of customer facing and production only sites and a mixture of greenfield and brownfield sites – such as the recent acquisition of Tony Farurugia’s shop in Canberra (Far- rugia is building a new shop). “That’s the benefit of the model – we have the flexi- bility to be able to transport cars to a pro- duction only site if there isn’t a customer facing location nearby from our sister company Motorserve.”
One of the biggest challenges for Knox and founder, Chris Beatty is prop- erty, zoning and availability. “We’re very picky, we like our nice big sheds at sites but occasionally if it aligns with our strategy we look at an acquisi-
