The Doctor is in...

But is he a miracle worker or a menace?
existed. However, she knows she would need to
create it; her soul would demand it.

"I would still write. That's where it starts, and the music follows. T H E
As a matter of fact, what I love to do is hand the lyrics to someone and
have them read them as I play the song and sing. Because I want to be
sure they grasp precisely what I'm saying. Frequently people gather a
better understanding of a song if they know the words. So, I would Homes
undoubtedly start writing first and humming terribly until I found
the right riff. Then repeat until music flowed from me to others, and
the music was alive again. The beautiful thing is that I would not be Papa Joe Grooms, Beth, and Blair
the only one fighting to recreate the music.” beyond

At the end of the interview, Blair pulled her guitar from her stepfather’s old case, now covered with stickers,
and created a little music for me. Blair pointed out she has her father’s handkerchief from a drawing he did
when he was young and her grandfather’s “Memories” sheet music from the theatre production “Cats” in
that case, “I keep memories in there and create memories from the case,” says Blair. the trees

Memories are all she has left of her beloved Papa, Joe Grooms (Jokin’ Joe), as he passed from Lou Gehrig’s dis-
ease on August 4, 2009. As the song “Amercan Pie” reflects, it was “the day the music died” for Blair. However,
she has no intention of allowing his memory, legacy, or passion for her to pursue music, slip away.

“I love him so much,” reflects Blair. While a part of her heart went with him, she keeps his memory alive with
each tune she beautifully performs. And, if you listen closely, you can clearly hear a whispered, “I love you,
 back.”
