An employee may request to supplement STD payments by using accrued sick leave first (until the leave
is exhausted), then the employee can use accrued vacation leave. This allows the employee to receive

up to the equivalent 100% of compensation while on STD leave. *There are exceptions to this in cases
where the maximum weekly gross benefit of $1,000 is met. By electing to supplement STD with accrued
leave, the employee will use .4 hours sick/vacation days for every day compensated through STD until all
accrued leave is exhausted. Additionally, accrued leave will be manually adjusted upon return to full
duty. Employees must agree to the provisions of the supplemental compensation by signing a
document that is available through the benefits department.

               Education & Tuition Reimbursement
               Undergraduate Tuition
Full-time employees are eligible to take undergraduate courses and to pursue an associate’s or bachelor’s
degree at either of the APUS institutions at no cost to the employee, and part-time employees are eligible
for the same benefit but at a 50% tuition reduction.

               General Eligibility Guidelines:
 Full-time and part-time employees are eligible for this benefit immediately upon hire.
However, the employee’s manager must review, approve, and authorize via a signature the
employee’s request to utilize this benefit each time the employee registers for a new
course(s), in order to ensure that the eligibility guidelines described in this section are
                          satisfied.
 The employee must not be on academic or employment probation.
 The employee must meet the performance expectations of his or her current position.
 The course(s) must not interfere with the employee’s performance of his or her job. The time
needed to participate in courses is limited to the employee’s personal time off, vacation, or
                          unpaid leave of absence.

The cost of undergraduate textbooks for full-time and part-time employees will be paid for by APUS.
APUS will not cover the cost of required “courseware”/software. The employee is responsible for any
expenses incurred for these products. If an e-book is offered for the course, the employee may acquire a
hardcopy text at his or her cost.

Fees for transfer credit evaluations, graduation applications, and per course technology are waived.
College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests are covered by APUS under this policy. Employees must
incur the initial expense of the CLEP and submit an expense report for reimbursement only if s/he passes.
The expense report must be authorized and signed by the employee’s manager.

Employees who are students with the University must register a personal address in order for their
textbooks and materials to be mailed (if applicable) to them at their residence. Internal mail services are
provided by APUS for business and professional purposes only.

If a part-time APUS employee withdraws from a course, they will responsible for any remaining tuition
costs incurred. Therefore, any balance due will be owed by the student; if any credit from payments
made by the employee is left after the scholarship is reversed a refund will be issued in accordance with
               customary APUS policies.
