BEYOND CLASSROOM WALLS: THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF SCHOOL-
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS IN STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
I. RATIONALE
A school cannot exist without a community, and a community cannot function
and thrive without a school. Luna National High School is the town mother school in
the town of Luna, where parents and other stakeholders provide support and assistance;
nevertheless, internal and external stakeholder support was previously underutilized.
For instance, parents would only go to school when the teachers want them to.
Volunteerism was almost non-existent. External stakeholders, who are supposed to be
the school's partners, would only come to the school upon the request of the principal.
Assistance was offered, but it was limited.
Strategic stakeholder engagement is proven to increase an organization or
project’s chance of success. For maximum benefit, it’s important to engage multiple
types of stakeholders, such as sponsors, end users, communities, and internal and
external partners (fundingforgood.org).
In addition, it takes more than just the skills of the school staff to provide
students with effective and efficient educational services. Rather, it calls for the
participation of all internal and external stakeholders. Pile and Gilchrist (2020)
defined school stakeholders as the local community, school employees, and students
and their families. These people have the means, know-how, and skills necessary to
advance the objectives of the educational system and foster the growth of our children
both now and in the future.
Further, because they work with administrators to provide a positive environment
for teaching and learning, stakeholders are crucial to school administration. In this
sense, academic performance outcomes may be impacted by the participation of
stakeholders in schools and the capacity of leaders to influence them.
For educational institutions and learning environments to be effective, all
stakeholders must collaborate. Active participation from all parties is necessary for a
cooperation to be effective. Fairness and respect are fostered among stakeholders
through the maintenance of open and honest communication. Lastly, the
accomplishment of educational objectives and results is a direct result of the
compassion and connection that such positive connections produce (Cruzat, Cruzat &
Javillonar, 2022).
According to Republic Act No.9155, also referred to as the "Governance of Basic
Education Act of 2001," School-Based Management (SBM) is used in the Philippines to
foster shared governance of schools. It gives important school stakeholders the authority
