        67. Classical: Britten Canticles
It’s a rare experience to hear all five of Britten’s Canticles in one evening, and at Snape Maltings a
great cast of tenor Allan Clayton, Feargal Mostyn-Williams and Roderick Williams along with
pianist James Baillieu made each one feel utterly distinct.
        66. Art: Helen Frankenthaler
Staged a decade after the Abstract Expressionist artist’s death, this beautiful show at the Dulwich
Picture Gallery brought together a group of wonderfully fluid woodcuts, the simple, soothing effect
of which belied some astonishingly complex techniques. Read the full review.
        65. Film: First Cow
In 19th century Oregon, two enterprising settlers pilfer milk from the territory’s lone bovine in

comradeship from Kelly Reichardt. Read the full review.
        64. Pop: Tom Jones: Surrounded by Time
The Welsh powerhouse’s 40th album married his age-weathered but still magnificent baritone
with a set of tough, reflective songs blending roots Americana with contemporary electronica. At
81, the old trouper was on top form. Read the full review.
