CATEGORIZATION OF DEFECTS

Connections

INCLUDES:
▪ Deformation or faults of fasteners (bolts, rivets or welding) in a structure

connection beyond the permissible design limits.

CATEGORIZATION / ACTION:
▪ The categorization of LFF shall consider if the connection elements are

still within the permissible design limits or to which extent.

Example: Connection with 3 bolts instead of 4 originally foreseen => remaining
safety factor is 25% => LFF= A (Almost certain). (Same apply if one of the
fasteners would be loose).

Examples:

Wrong design / wrong installation Failure of a support due to overload

Missing fasteners Missing/damaged grounting
