Hosts Grand Opening Unveils Medically Complex Unit
Memorial Rehabilitation Institute at
Memorial Regional Hospital South
recently celebrated the grand opening of
its new Medically Complex Rehab -
ilitation Unit with telemetry capability.
This unique blending of medical and
rehabilitation services will allow patients
to potentially come to rehabilitation ear-
lier while still being in the best medical
setting to optimize their progress and
outcomes.
Accredited by the Commission on
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities,
(CARF), this new 15–bed unit is
equipped with private rooms and an
8,000-square-foot-gym with specialized
equipment and technologies designed to
treat patients who are recovering from
various complex medical conditions. The
Medically Complex Rehabilitation Unit
will specialize in treating patients requir-
ing additional and complex medical care
including, but not limited to, cancer patients, bariatric patients, cardiac patients, post-
transplant patients, and patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
as well as individuals who have had prolonged hospitalizations. The unit may also

America’s newest children’s hospital, Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest
Florida, debuted to the community during a grand opening Saturday, April 1. The
new, child-friendly facility is located next to HealthPark Medical Center on Bass
Road.The building encompasses nearly 300,000 square feet and consolidates into one
location the medical and ancillary specialty services required to treat critically ill or
injured children in a five-county region. A total of 128 patient beds will be available
at the new hospital, with future expansion capabilities up to 160 beds.
A dedicated pediatric emergency department with its own ambulance entrance will
be staffed by pediatric emergency physicians 24/7.
