West Boca Medical Center Now Performing

Total Knee Replacement with MAKO Robotic

                     Arm Assisted Total Knee Application

West Boca Medical Center is offering patients Stryker’s robotic-arm assisted total
knee application for use with its Mako System. This latest advancement in joint
replacement surgery transforms the way total knee replacements are performed.
Mako Total Knee combines Stryker’s advanced robotic technology with its clinically
proven GetAroundKnee (Triathlon Total Knee System), which has enabled surgeons
to have a more predictable surgical experience with increased accuracy during labo-
        ratory testing.
“Mako is changing the way joint replacement surgeries are performed by providing
each patient with a personalized surgical experience based on their specific diagnosis
and anatomy,” said Mitch Feldman, chief executive officer. “It’s exciting to be able to
offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line to per-
form total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements.”
The Mako Total Knee application is a knee replacement treatment option designed
to relieve the pain caused by joint degeneration due to osteoarthritis. Through CT-
based 3D modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons can use the Mako System to create a
personalized surgical plan and identify the implant size, orientation and alignment
based on each patient’s unique anatomy. The Mako System also enables surgeons to
virtually modify the surgical plan intra-operatively and assists the surgeon in execut-
        ing bone resections.

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center Is First

Hospital in Palm Beach County to Use

                          New Test for Heart Attacks

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is the first hospital in Palm Beach County now
using the highly sensitive Troponin T. This test allows physicians to accurately rule
out patients presenting to the emergency department with chest pain who are not
having a heart attack. This technology increases the sensitivity for Troponin detec-
tion, which is the preferred biomarker in the diagnosis of a heart attack. In addition
to using an electrocardiogram and signs of ischemia, troponin is becoming a more
standard way of diagnosing a heart attack.
“The highly sensitive Troponin T technology is a game changer in our community
when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients who may be coming to our emer-
gency room for a cardiac event,” said Dianne Goldenberg, chief executive officer at
Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. “Because of how quickly this test can be result-
ed, it can allow our medical staff to make decisions faster and effectively based on the
        results.”

Elaine J. Wold Makes Transformational Gift in

Support of Boca Raton Regional Hospital Initiative

Boca Raton Regional Hospital (BRRH) has received a transformative $25 million
gift from Elaine J. Wold and the Bay Branch Foundation, directed to the Hospital’s
        expansion and renovation initiative.
This commitment will name a new seven-story facility the Gloria Drummond
Patient Tower to be built in addition to the existing inpatient structure. The tower will
honor the memory of Gloria Drummond, founder of Boca Regional and a life-long
        friend of Mrs. Wold.
The new tower is part of a planned 278,000 square foot, $260 million transforma-
tion of BRRH that also includes an expanded and renovated Surgical Suite, an
enhanced and expanded Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Medical Intensive Care
Unit, a new Cardiovascular Intensive Care and Stepdown Unit, as well as increased
private patient rooms and a parking garage.
Mrs. Wold is one of the nation’s leading philanthropists and a long-time BRRH sup-
porter and donor. She most recently donated $10 million to construct the Hospital’s
37,500 square foot, state-of-the-art Gloria Drummond Physical Rehabilitation
Institute, also named in memory of her friend. Previously, Mrs. Wold donated the
funds to expand and modernize the Hospital’s Emergency Department, creating the
Wold Family Center for Emergency Medicine, which treats more than 50,000 patients
annually. She has supported various patient care initiatives at Boca Regional, and has
donated to a number of community and national organizations.
