Dr. Blanchard’s interest in cardiology started in medical
school at the Unversidad de Montemorelos in Mexico in 1984 and grew into his pas-
sion in 1997 as a clinical research fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching
affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
“Wherever there was chest pain, I was present,” said Dr. Blanchard, who is now part
of the Broward Health Physician Group. “I would follow every patient that had chest
pain in the hospital.”
Over the years, Dr. Blanchard has participated in lectures, clinical investigations
and published on various topics involving cardiovascular disease. He is a professional
member of the American College of Cardiology, Association of Black Cardiologists,
Heart Failure Society (HFSA) and the American Society of Echocardiography.
Dr. Blanchard was born in Haiti and grew up in a home of 9 children where the
mantra was “we are here to help.” Living by those words, more than 10 years ago Dr.
Blanchard started Heart to Heart World Mission, a medical mission organization that
has visited Haiti, Jamaica and Ecuador. The organization targets area with limited
health care resources.
Sastrie Bharath, APRN-BC
Sastrie Bharath, APRN-BC, is the coordinator for the
structural heart program at Broward Health Medical Center.
She has been with Broward Health for 14 years and has
more than 30 years of experience in cardiac nursing, includ-
ing cardio-thoracic intensive care, interventional cardiology
and cardiac electrophysiology.
Bharath coordinates the structural heart program, which
includes ordering tests for and evaluating patients, follow-
up care management and compiling patient information to
present at a weekly valve conference.
“The patients have my cell phone for any questions or concerns,” said Bharath.
“This builds a trust and confidence in our structural heart program at Broward Health
Medical Center. It’s not just that we are taking care of patients. We are vested almost
on a personal level to enhance the wellbeing of our patients.”
Bharath earned her Diploma of Nursing at the Port of Spain General Hospital
School of Nursing in Trinidad. She completed her Bachelor of Science and Master of
Science degrees at Nova Southeastern University and Florida International University,
respectively. Bharath’s certifications include ARNP with ANCC Certification and
ACLS Certification. She is a professional member of the American Association of
Critical Care Nurses.
