Family Physician Dr. David Hurst
Joins Indian River Medical Associates
David Hurst, M.D., has joined the staff at Indian River
Medical Center as a primary care physician. Dr. Hurst earned
a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of
Florida before completing his medical education at Cebu
Doctors’ University in Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines. After
a pediatrics clerkship at the University of Miami’s Jackson
Memorial Hospital, he completed clerkships in anesthesiolo- Dr. David Hurst
gy and infectious diseases along with an internal medicine
internship at the Cleveland Clinic. He completed his residen-
cy in family practice at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah,
Georgia. Dr. Hurst is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Before
joining the staff at Indian River Medical Center, he served patients at the Heart & Family
Institute in Port St. Lucie.
Physiatrist Melissa Guanche, M.D.,
Joins Baptist Health Medical Group
Physiatrist Melissa Guanche, M.D., has joined Baptist
Health Medical Group as part of Baptist Health Center for
Spine Care. She specializes in physical medicine and rehabili-
tation that aims to enhance and restore the functional ability
of patients with physical impairments or disabilities affecting
the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, mus-
cles and tendons. Dr. Guanche is Board certified in physical
medicine and rehabilitation. She received her medical degree Dr. Melissa Guanche
from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She
completed an internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami
Beach and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson
University in Philadelphia, PA, where she served as chief resident. Her postdoctoral train-
ing also includes a fellowship in sports medicine at OSS/Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in
York, PA.

Leading New York City cardiac surgeon, Allan S. Stewart,
M.D., FACS, has been named chief of cardiac surgery at
Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, part of Baptist Health
South Florida. Dr. Stewart comes to Miami Cardiac &
Vascular Institute from Mount Sinai Health System in New Dr. Allan S. Stewart
York, where he served as director of the Center for Aortic
Disease, co-director of the Heart Valve Repair Center and medical director of
International Medicine. He has been included on New York Magazine’s list of “Best
Doctors” for ten consecutive years. Dr. Stewart earned his medical degree at Rutgers
University School of Medicine in Newark, NJ. He completed an internship and chief
residency in general surgery at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in
Philadelphia, a research fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery
and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
