                Advice and Eat

                  Your Greens!

                   BY ANGIE WILLOUGHBY

As children we were always admonished by our
parental figures to eat our greens so we could grow
up to be big and strong. With the growing popularity
of cannabis infused edibles that statement now gives
a whole new meaning to the phrase 'eating your Angie Willoughby
        greens.'
I started The Green Baker, LLC officially in March
of 2018 after seeing the wide array of cannabis products on the market and not being
impressed by any of them. My son, who was born with cerebral palsy, and my wife
who has her own extensive health issues which discouraged vaping or any inhalation
methods; were not finding any items that offered a fully comprehensive application
that enhanced their overall health and wellness. So, they were my starting inspira-
tion. How could I apply my 20+ years of chef skills to create inclusive and delicious
cannabis infusions that were enjoyable and also wholesome for my family to respon-
        sibly medicate?
Consuming cannabis via smoke versus edibles have very different effects on the
body. When you inhale cannabis smoke into your lungs, the active compounds, such
as CBD, THC and CBN, are almost immediately absorbed into the bloodstream, mak-
ing their way to the brain. Once it hits your brain, it binds to receptors in the endo-
cannabinoid system, most notably the CB1 receptors, which produces the euphoria
typically associated with getting high. When you ingest cannabis in the form of edi-
bles, it passes through the digestive tract where it's then absorbed by the stomach.
Cannabis' active compounds are then metabolized in the liver. Because an edible has
to go through the digestive tract and liver before getting absorbed into the blood-
stream, it takes significantly longer for the cannabinoids to hit your brain. But once
it does, it's stronger and has a longer effect.
This is just one reason why medicating with edibles is such a desirable method for
some. The Green Baker offers the opportunity for consumers to have total control
over the way that they consume cannabis from educational seminars, personalized
infusion classes to ready-made options. It is our belief that knowledge of cannabis
will make it a powerful tool to better health and wellness.
