            while I am away.


            Father  and  Mother  tortoise

            promised.


            e baby tortoise went off to

            fetch  the  chutney.  Father


            tortoise nodded off              as he lay

            back  on  the  grass.  Mother

            tortoise put on her spectacles


            and  studied  the   owers

            nearby.


            An  hour  passed  and  then  a  day.  e  weeks  passed  and  a  month

            went by. e months became a year. Baby tortoise did not return.


            Father tortoise said, I am feeling a little hungry. Do you think we


            can have a nibble           at one of the chapattis?

            Mother tortoise opened the picnic basket and began to take out a


            chapatti. Just then they heard a loud shout. ey looked up to see

            Baby tortoise coming out from behind a large bush.


            ‘Aha!’ cried Baby tortoise, as he came near. I knew you would cheat.

            It’s a good thing that I didn’t go home for the chutney. I knew you


            would  eat  the  chapattis  when  I  was  not  here.  Aer  hearing  this

            father and the mother got annoyed                      .






             nodded off - to fall asleep ,  nibble - pick over, take small bites,  annoyed - angry, Irritated.
