You know that there are 26 letters in the English alphabet.

‘a’ is used before words beginning with consonants or consonant
sound. For example :

‘an’ is used before words beginning with vowels or vowel sound.
For example :
an ox an umbrella an onion
an egg an insect an engine

‘an’ is used before words beginning with silent ‘h’.
