SOFTWARE

Software is just like the heart of a computer and cannot be seen and touched.

Hardware does not work on its own. It needs some instructions to make it work.
Thus, software refers to a group of programs that perform various tasks on a

computer.

The computer processes data

with the help of its programs. A
program is a set of instructions

given to the computer to do a
particular task. You already know

about Paint and WordPad . Some
other commonly used programs

are CorelDRAW , MS Office and Adobe Photoshop .

TYPES OF SOFTWARE

There are mainly two types of software:

1. System Software 2. Application software

SYSTEM SOFTWARE

System software controls and manages the overall activities of a computer
system. So, system software is like the manager of a computer system.

The most popular and widely used system software is operating system.
Operating System is a software that enables user to interact with the computer.

It prepares the computer for you to work and run the application softwares. The
operating system acts as a bridge between the user and the computer making it

understand the instructions given by the user through an Application Software .

Microsoft Windows is the most popular operating system available today. It has
