v Phloem connects leaves to all the parts of the plant including roots. It helps in the
transportation of the food prepared by the leaves to all the parts of the plant by a process
called translocation.
v Transpiration is a process by which plants lose excess water in the form of water vapours
through the stomata present on the surface of the leaves.
v The discovery of blood circulation was done by William Harvey in the 17th century.
v Stephen Hales, an English clergyman & amateur physiologist demonstrated that water from
the soil moves up the stems to the leaves where it is lost as water vapour by a process called
transpiration.
