Figure 3 Figure 3 shows the Short
Arc Quad exercise. It is
performed with a rolled
up towel or pillow under
the knee.
The knee is straightened by lifting the foot and keeping the
knee against the towel/pillow. The motion is repeated ten
(10) times, two (2) to three (3) times per day.
Figure 4 shows the Straight

Leg Raise. It is performed by
tightening the thigh muscles like
a Quad Set, then lifting the leg
straight into the air. Repeat the
movement ten (10 ) times two
(2) to three (3) times per day.
Be sure that the leg remains
straight.
When Should I Call My Doctor?
Rest, ice, and elevation of the effected knee is a first line
defense. More immediate medical care is required if you:
• Have persistent pain;
• Cannot bear weight on your knee;
• See an obvious deformity in your leg or knee;
• Have a fever in addition to redness, pain, and persistent
swelling in your knee, that may indicate infection.
