Breathing Techniques
Breathing and control of breathing is a big
part in perception of shortness of breath.
1. Relax as much as you can while breathing. If
you are tensed up it is harder to get air in and out.
2. Breathe out through pursed lips (see photo) and in
through your nose to help slow down breathing.
3. Lean forward while exercising to help control shortness
of breath.
4. Breathe from your belly, using abdominal muscles. Let belly
stick out while inhaling and pull belly in while exhaling.

If you have additional questions please discuss them with your physician
or contact Access Rehab Centers at one of our 10 outpatient clinics.
