What Causes Arthritis,
DDD And Stenosis?
Arthritis and Degenerative Disc
Disease (DDD) are degenerative
changes that can begin causing your
back pain as early as 30 years of age.
These degenerative changes of the
low back can result in lumbar stenosis.
Injury from improper lifting, twisting
or pulling can aggravate the condi-
tion and symptoms experienced
because of these changes.
What Is Arthritis And Spinal Stenosis?
The wearing away (with time) of the joints between the
vertebrae are called osteoarthritis. The thinning/shrinking
of the discs between the vertebrae are the result of DDD.
If the wear and tear on the low back structures is allowed
to continue, the osteoarthritis and DDD can progress and
possibly lead to spinal stenosis. Stenosis is a narrowing of
the space around the spinal nerves potentially causing
compression of the nerves. This nerve compression often
causes pain referred into the buttocks and legs.
