Collaboration Programme between Group Tax of PETRONAS and
Universiti Utara Malaysia
Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between Group Tax of
PETRONAS and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on 3 May 2021, a syndication with
UUM has been conducted to roll out frameworks on areas of academic cooperation that
will benefit both parties.
Through this collaboration, UUM students known as Padawans will undergo a one-year
programme which will enable them to:

To achieve these objectives, the modes of implementation are:
The Padawans will be assigned to and guided by Industry
Mentors from Group Tax of PETRONAS. Through a series of
engagements, the Padawans will carry out a series of research
projects within the duration of this programme. The theme of
the projects revolve around taxes and practices related to the
energy industry.
The Padawans will also be attending various tax courses on
corporate, petroleum and personal income taxes, as well as on
transfer pricing, withholding and indirect taxes. Post-training
assessments will be conducted to ensure that the Padawans
can familiarise themselves with tax concepts, tax legislations
and tax functions within the energy industry.
The Padawans will be required to present their research
projects to the management team of Group Tax of PETRONAS
and the Academic Advisors from UUM to demonstrate their
research, analytical and presentation skills in relation to tax
functions.
