          Elicit

          ❑Mini Lesson

Eliciting (elicitation) is a term that describes a variety of techniques

that enable the instructor to elicit information from the students,
as opposed to giving it to them.

Commonly, eliciting is used to ask students to generate vocabulary
and language forms and rules, as well as to generate ideas for a

lesson topic. The term's definition in the Dictionary of Language

Teaching and Applied Linguistics, "techniques or procedures that a
teacher employs to get students to actively produce speech or

writing," suggests that it may have broader applications.
