The Role of KH A. Wahid Hasyim in
Formulating Pancasila
Talking about Pancasila, of course, cannot be separated from the role of a Nahdlatul
Ulama (NU) figure, namely KH Abdul Wahid Hasyim. The man who was born in Jombang
1 June 1914 M or coincides with Friday legi, Rabiul Awwal 1333 H is the first child of 15
children from the couple HadlratuSyekh KH. Hasyim Asyari with Nyai Nafiqah bint Kyai
Ilyas.
At the age of 25, he registered himself as the leader of the federation of Indonesian Islamic
organizations through the Indonesian Islamic Council (MIAI). Not only that, eight years
later or at the age of 31 in 1945, KH Abdul Wahid Hasyim had become a national figure.
At a relatively young age, he also held several positions, including when Japan formed a body
tasked with investigating efforts to prepare for independence, known as the Investigating
Agency for Preparatory Efforts for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI). Kiai Wahid Hasyim
is one of the youngest members after BPH. Among the 62 people present at that time, he was
only 33 years old. He represented NU along with two other figures who were members of the
body, namely KH Masykur from Malang and KH Abdul Fatah Yasin from Bojonegoro..
One day a polemic occurred in Indonesia before ratifying the Jakarta Charter (Piagam
Jakarta), in which it was known that the 9 (nine) drafting team of the state consisted of
Soekarno, Moch Hatta, AA Maramis, KH A Wahid Hasyim, Abdul Kahar Muzakkir, Abikusno
Tjokrosujoso, H. Agus Salim, Ahmad Subardjo and Muh Yamin, formulated one of the words
of the Jakarta Charter (Piagam Jakarta), namely: "Divinity, with the Obligation to Implement
Islamic Shari'a for Its Adherents" (Ketuhanan, dengan Kewajiban Menjalankan Syari'at Islam
Bagi Pemeluk-pemeluknya). Before the Opening/Muqaddimah (Preamble) was ratified, on
August 17, 1945 Mohammad Hatta quickly expressed the aspirations of the people of eastern
Indonesia who threatened to separate themselves from Indonesia if the point "Godhead" was
not changed in essence. This is a serious problem if it is not immediately addressed wisely and
prudently. Because the integrity of the nation is being threatened. This polemic is of course
a reaction to the first Sila which is considered not to accommodate religions other than Islam
and discriminates against followers of other religions which are minorities in Indonesia. If left
