1.0 OVERVIEW
Secunderabad Division was formed on 2nd October 1966 with
both Broad gauge and Meter gauge systems. The meter gauge
part was carved out from Secunderabad Division to form
Hyderabad division on 17.11.1977.
The Division has 1630.42 route Kilometers of track and 166 stations
(including halt & operational stations) spread over four states viz.
Telangana (1175.29 KMs), Maharashtra (180.11KMs), Karnataka
(222.97KMs) and Andhra Pradesh (52.05KMs). 2517.97 TKMs of
track out of which 2152.605 TKMs of track is electrified (85.40%).
During the year 2022-23 (upto Oct’22) Division loaded 43.463 MT
of originating traffic and carried 47.82 millions of originating
passengers. This constitutes 58.30% of originating loading and
37.90% of originating passengers of South Central Railway. Coal
from Singareni Collieries and WCL is the major traffic contributing
58.22% of the total, the rest being made up of a wide basket of
commodities like cement (29.85%), food grains (3.64 %), dolomite
/ limestone (raw materials to steel plant 0.85%), petroleum
(0.76%), containers (1. 36%) and other goods (5.32%).
Goods traffic is being handled at 62 sidings and 33 goods sheds
spread throughout the division. This includes 18 loading/un
loading points of FCI. Besides the above, the division serves two
ICDs/Domestic Container Depots (SNF and NPL) and 4 power
generating units.
Passenger terminals at Secunderabad, Hyderabad & Lingampalli
on an average handle around 403 Mail/Express/passenger trains
daily. These are among the largest passenger terminals of the
country. In addition, the Division has the unique distinction of
successfully running a commuter system in the twin cities area in
partnership with the State Government.
