species live in equatorial Africa. Gorillas live in family groups, usually of 1 to 50 lead by
a silverback gorilla who is the leader.
PHYSICAL FEATURES:
The largest living primates, gorillas are stocky animals with big chests, and
large shoulders, large hands and forearms that are much shorter than the upper
arm. The face is black and hairless, with small eyes that are close together.
Big adult males are identified by a sagittal crest along the midline of the
skull and an area of white hair on the back, which is why they are known
as silverbacks.
BEHAVIOR:
Gorillas make nests to sleep in, they use materials that
provide warmth. Gorillas beat their chest when they
are in threat. When they beat their chests, it means
that they charge an enemy.
FOOD:
Gorillas are fussy eaters. They know what they like
and that is all they usually eat. With some plants
they only catch the leaves with others only
the stack and the roots. As they eat, they
might stack up the parts they want to have
in a neat pile. Most of the plant food that
gorillas eat are coarse and tough, but their
strong jaws have no trouble grinding it up.
They break open termites nests to eat the
larvae.
MY THOUGHTS and EXTRA INFO:
My thoughts about gorillas are that we
misunderstood them. They are 98% close to
humans. So they must also be like us. They
must also feel like we do.
