Outdoor Opera ons
The Outside Operations Team has been preparing to get our lifts & trails ready for the 2019-20 season. This summer included a focus on re-vegetation. We repaired a small earth slump on lower Wilson’s Wiggle and cut aggressive water bars on Rogers & Minute Mile to better control surface water and erosion. Though the summer was dry, re- vegetation of our terrain was very successful.
This year’s pipeline repairs & replacement included our main snowmaking header pipe along the bottom of Champlain and a section of pipe on the corner of Freeloader. With this replacement, we have included some cathodic protection on the new pipe in the form of zinc anodes. An anode is the electrode in a polarized electrical device through which current ows in from an outside circuit. The way we counteract galvanic corrosion is to add a third metal into the circuit, one that is quicker than the other two to give up its electrons. This piece of metal is called a sacri cial anode. This will assist with the slowing of our underground pipeline deterioration.
Our continued snowmaking automation program included installation of an additional 14 automated hydrants on the upper area of Champlain. The system has been tested and as of this writing (Nov 20) we have made snow on Champlain & Rogers and have pumped 6,609,977 gallons of water through our Snowmaking Plant. Each of our automated guns on has a light to indicate that they are active. You will notice these small indicator lights on our equipment when it is dark out. This is normal and we would like to remind everyone to please leave these alone. We will continue to work with our manufacturer and our Property & Planning Committee to continue our snowmaking automation projects.
