Rogers Lift PLC change out has been completed. The process logic controls installed with the lift in 1995 were antiquated and no longer supported. The new PLC is the latest technology from Allen-Bradley and includes an IOT access point for remote trouble shooting and support.
All of our lifts have received annual scheduled maintenance including visual inspection along with non-destructive testing of selected and required components. The TSSA inspections are scheduled and the Rogers load test will take place on November 27.
During the regular spring oil testing of all our lifts & grooming equipment it was determined that the oil sample from the Bay Street gearbox was far from satisfactory. We immediately had the gearbox borescoped and the results determined there were gear failures within the gearbox. The gearbox was removed and sent to Leitner-Poma headquarters where it was disassembled and further investigated. The parts were ordered from Kissling in Europe and the gearbox will be reassembled with the new parts and returned for service. Bay Street Lift was also subject to a 5-year annual engineering review. All lift components are reviewed during this process. This includes non-destructive testing of many components including tower thickness, removal of sheave assemblies to check tolerances on main and sheave wheel bushings, bearings & main axles among other requirements.
Our snowmaking policy’s mandate continues to state that we start making snow mid-November weather permitting. Our goal remains to have as much terrain open as possible, as early as possible. As always, we will focus on making snow wherever and whenever temperatures permit.
We will usually start to make snow at the top of the hill as it is colder at the summit and we are very temperature dependent. This means that the snowmaking operation will typically start at the top of Champlain, Rogers and Minute.
Think cold, think snow – see you on the hill!
