Finally, a huge congratulation to Mackenzie Wood (2nd year FIS.) Mackenzie has been selected to represent Canada at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland in January – good luck Mack!
When I look at the number of athletes still racing after U16 it shows how much our young athletes love to ski race.
Program placement criteria
Placing athletes into training groups is an exciting
time at Georgian Peaks. Our goal is to place athletes in groups based on skill level. This gives the athletes the opportunities to reach their development goals at a pace they are comfortable with.
Athletes are seeded based on the following:
• Club Championships results
• Previous season race results
• Skills testing
• Placement in the previous season • Former Coaches’ recommendation
Please note: any requests for children to be grouped together must be received in writing, from all families involved, by the Alpine Of ce by December 30th at noon.
A Note from Cara Williams SOD Head Coach:
It’s time to get excited! The snow has begun to fall and we have a stacked lineup of highly quali ed Coaches on our 2019/2020 Team roster who are chomping at the bit to get rolling. Since last season our Coaches have been hard at work furthering their education, attending conferences and increasing their certi cation levels in order to better serve our Members—several of our Coaches have reached milestones with their quali cations. In the Alpine Racing Department, we strive for excellence in our leadership, which is why Georgian Peaks retains more high-level mentoring Coaches while attracting young Coaches fresh off the O-Cup and FIS circuit. Our coaching vision is to provide our athletes with clear and consistent skill development within the long-term athlete development (LTAD), so that every athlete, in any given training group, is working on comparable skills to his or her peers. Our ultimate goal is to have fun, create a lifelong love of the sport, and instill con dence in our athletes. “When you have con dence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things.” – Joe Namath
Throughout the off-season I have been working with Alpine Ontario on an exciting new early season event— the AOA Kick Start Skills Camp takes place December 6 & 7 at Mount St. Louis. U10-U16 Athletes, Coaches
and Of cials are invited to attend this two-day on-snow camp with some of Ontario’s best Coaches, Race Of cials and Evaluators. Athletes will participate in technical freeskiing, gates and skill environments and have the opportunity to ski with (and learn from) legends like Todd Brooker, Luke Sauder, Graydon Old eld and Georgian Peaks’ own, Peter Metzger. In addition, Level 1-2 Of cials’ Courses are available for Parents and Of cials who want to brush up on their training or learn more about ski racing. Participants will come away from the event stronger and more con dent heading into the 2020 season. For full details, and to register, go to https:// www.alpineontario.ca/kickstart/
